Pets I Have Met: Bella

Bella is an adorable Labradoodle (a Labrador Retriever/ Poodle mix). She is about four years old. She is extremely intelligent and obedient. If she is told to find a person, ball, or toy, she will usually find it very quickly.

Isn't Bella cute?
From what I have observed, she is relatively quiet, and doesn't jump on us much.

Bella is extremely friendly and loves to play fetch or tug of war! She also loves to swim, since both Labs and Poodles are water loving breeds.

Mutt? Mix? Designer Dog?

Stubby is half Border Collie and half Corgi. Is he a Mutt, mixed breed, or designer dog?

The terms "Mutt" and "Mixed Breed" tend to be used interchangeably. But which term is correct? Technically, a mixed breed dog is a dog bred from two purebred dogs of different breeds. A mutt has three or more breeds in its lineage.  That would make Stubby a "mixed breed" dog.

A designer dog is a mixed breed that is been bred on purpose. These can cost as much as purebred dogs!

These Labradoodles are mixed breeds sometimes called "Designer dogs"

I have heard of of Labradoodle puppies costing $2500! Instead of buying a high price for a "designer dog" from a breeder, it makes much more sense to get a mixed breed dog of a mix you like from an animal shelter or off Craigslist. These dogs will be much cheaper, or even free.
