I was recently reading a book on pet rats. Apparently the author of the book really went overboard on keeping her rats. The author said that you should have at least two rats and have them both spayed/ neutered (which could cost up to $500 for a pair!)
I added up the 'recomended' costs in the book, and for a pair of rats living a normal lifespan of 3 years would cost up to a whopping $2080! Not counting the rat themselves: the book said that the average cost of a rat is $3 - $5! That makes the rats 260 times more expencive than the cost of the rats themselves.
Really, care for a pair of rats should cost far, far less! Some people really spend way too much on their pets.
