Toy Dogs

I don't mean toy dogs like stuffed animals, but really, really, really tiny dogs. I don't really like the term "Toy dog", since this makes it seem like the dogs are toys instead of live animals.  Though they ar very small, these are still dogs, and should be treated as such.

Toy dogs have a bad reputation. Many people consider them to be stupid, yappy, and aggressive. This is not necessarily the case. Though some breeds (like the Shih-tzu ) are unintelligent many of them (especially the toy poodle) are smart. Yes, these tiny canines do bark quite a bit. But all dogs (with the notable exception of the Basenji) bark sometimes. If you train a dog well, it will be quieter. These small dogs do bite a lot, and the Toy Poodle, Shih-tzu, and Chihuahua rank as some of the most biting breeds, but their bites are rarely dangerous, and with training, biting will stop.

Toy dogs can be cheap pets. A Chihuahua or Yorkie can live on as little as 1/4 cup of food each day. By means of comparison, a Mastiff or Great Dane may need four cups each day! They also only need a tiny kennel and are very easy to travel with.

These dogs are house pets only! They can not live outdoors! But they are the best dogs to keep indoors since they are so tiny They can be taken outside, though.

Toy dogs are good for almost anyone who can keep a dog in their house.
